LET’S GO BABES!
Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final and I, a Dallas Stars fan, am ECSTATIC. The Stars have won game 1 in an extravagant fashion and I am so ready for more.
First, lets dig into the game.
This first period was elite. The Stars were beautiful in the first 20, they were throwing hits, shooting the puck, and it is exactly the Stars I wanted to see out there. Dallas really took advantage of the Lightning having dogshit puck control and they kept on the puck in their zone. Dallas got on the board first with a goal from Mr. Joel Hanley. Hanley played in the AHL all season and this goal was his first NHL goal. Could you imagine – first goal in the Stanley Cup Final. Dallas kept the lead for a bit but the Lightning got even so the period ended 1-1.
In the second period, the Stars just got better. Jamie Oleksiak got Dallas in the lead 12:30 into the middle frame with a shot off the rebound. It didn’t stop there either. Joel Kiviranta, the Finish SuperHero of the Stars, had put us up 3-1 with under 30 seconds left in the period.
Now we’re playing with fire. A 3-1 lead can be lethal, the tide can shift quick. Well in the 3rd, the Stars had an answer for them. 20 minutes of stonewall Anton Khudobin and a lineup of Stars eager to end this game with the score where it was. The Stars didn’t allow a single goal in the 3rd although they faced 22 shots on net. The Stars had just 2 shots on net but the team secured an empty netter from Jason Dickinson to end the game 4-1.
I was on edge the entire fucking game but holy shit did I smile for the first 20 minutes. I must have looked like a nut just sitting and smiling at my TV because my team, MY STARS, are in the Stanley Cup Final. 🙂
Let me tell you that that smile kept growing as the game went on. The Stars’ energy tonight was what they needed, it’s the hockey I know they could play. The first two periods were some of the best Stars hockey we’ve seen, did they lose a bit of their edge in the 3rd, sure, but they kept it going. ON the 7 year anniversary of Jamie Benn being named captain, he wins his first game in the Stanley Cup Final! Dobby was elite, the boys were angry, it’s the fire they need. They’re comets flying through the night sky. Let’s fuckin gooooo!
Game 2 is Monday and I just wanna hibernate until then. This is all I care about: 3 wins, 3 more games – we can do this. You’ve done it before, you can do it again, boys.
