I know I said this series would be filled with goals but I did not have a 10-goal Game 1 in my plans. The Lightning apparently did because they just pulled out a bucket and mop (#NoRegrets) and wiped the floor with the New York Islanders.
The Lightning were hot from the jump. They put up 3 goals in the 1st period with just 1 against them. A 3-1 lead is one of the most dangerous leads in hockey, so heading into the middle frame with it might leave some pressure on the Lighting. If there was any, they used that as fuel and just added to their lead. Islanders had no goals in the 2nd but 2 from the Lightning to make the game 5-1. If you’re looking for a miraculous 3rd period comeback, this isn’t that story. Nick Leddy gave the Islanders a 2nd goal but alas he was drowned out by 3 more Lightning goals for a final score of 8-2 in favor of the Florida team. Full clips and details here.
And with a game having 10 goals, there are obviously a lot of highlights but this one right here is what I can’t stop thinking about.
We are all well aware that Nikita Kucherov is one of the top players in the NHL but the guy just proves himself so well time and time again that all you can do is gawk at it. Not to mention, the Lightning have been getting their moneys worth from the underrated Brayden Point. There is also this insane stat from the game:
How the actual fuck do you accomplish that? Tampa is gonna be alive this series and I cannot wait to see how the Islanders answer back. It’s just Game 1 so the series isn’t decided just yet. I did just say the other day that this series was going to be goal-packed and oh boy did I nail that one on the head.
