The Dallas Stars haven’t won a game since February 25th. In the last 6 games they lost (not including yesterday) the Stars had 9 goals for and 17 goals against. Before the season break things were rocky in Dallas. The defense and goaltending was fantastic but the offense was lacking.
I thought maybe, we’d come back from the break fresh. There was time off, players were still working out together. MAYBE they can get their mojo back.
Well, I was wrong.
The Stars played an exhibition game against the Preds yesterday and they were beat 0-2. Of course, it’s just an exhibition game but with how they played, I’m worried.
It started in the first period. Of course, it’s game 1 back after a 4, 5-ish month break so I expected some rust but this was bad. The Stars had 1 shot on goal in the first half of that period. They woke up more as the game went on but in those first 10 minutes all I could think is “well, here we go again.”
When you look at this line up, there are so many talented, productive scorers that it’s insane they can’t get their shit together enough to grab a goal in an exhibition game – even without Tyler Seguin in the lineup. That worried me the most about our future, no goal at all. Coming back and getting shut-out. You have Jamie Benn, Miro Heiskanen, Alexander Radulov, Roope Hintz, Denis Gurianov, and Joe Pavelski – that’s not even all of their top scorers but you get the point. This lineup is too fucking talented to go without a goal. This isn’t a new problem either. Only 1 player had 20 goals in the regular season and that’s Guri.
If this problem keeps persisting then we’re going to have a tough time getting through this opening round-robin. The team has so much talent but getting them to glue together and be creative enough to get one past the goalie has been lacking.
Back to yesterday’s game, the team did wake up more as time went on, as I mentioned. They got physical and energetic. They eventually started to get more shots on net, ending with 25 in total, but none they could get in the net.
The team moves on to Vegas Monday and, according to Benn, this is when the real games begin. Dallas needs to at least start as the team we saw in the later half of yesterday’s game and build-up to their beast-mode level. We know it’s there, we’ve seen the Stars really be alight- that’s what is so frustrating. Be creative, work on the powerplay, and be the Big Bad Dallas Stars we need.
