Good morning y’all. So yesterday, the hockey Hall of Fame 2020 class was announced and of course, there were some people that got snubbed. Well here is a BIG one that I will be fighting for until I’m cold in my grave. Julie Chu should have been a part of the 2020 HHOF Class and if she isn’t there in 2021 Imma be pissed.
Julie Chu, if you don’t know, is an absolutely astounding and powerful player. She has played in probably every league and has been a winner anywhere she has played. You can check out her full stats here otherwise we will be sitting here for a very, very long time. She was productive, no way around it. She attended Harvard for psychology and while playing on their team, she held the NCAA assists and total points records until they were broken in 2011.
Chu’s success goes way further than college. She is heavily decorated. At the World Championships, she’s won 5 gold medals and 4 silver ones. At the Olympics, she has 3 silvers and 1 bronze. She also had 3 CWHL Clackson Cups and one WWHL championship.
Chu hasn’t played pro hockey since 2017. She’s been coaching Concordia University since 2014 and that’s where she remains.
She’s a god damn hockey icon and she deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. She led Team USA to so much success and victory that it’s crazy she isn’t in there at this point. Are we supposed to wait forever? No.
Chu is a textbook Hall of Famer and she deserves to have her name there. Fucking bonus points if the year she’s inducted her wife, Caroline Ouellette, is too. If you don’t know their story, they were rival captains (Chu is American and Ouellette is Canadian) and they ended up falling in love and getting married. If I can’t have that competitive rivalry that turns to love, I don’t want it.
Anyway, I digress.
My point still stands. Get Julie Chu in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
