The PWHPA is starting to release the names of the players they’re going to have in their second season. So far we have 6 players, here is a little bit about them:
Abby Roque – 22, forward
Let’s fuckin go! I loved Abby Roque in her US Women’s National Team debut back in December when she played with the US in the Rivalry Series. She’s got a wicked shot and is a great passer, so I’m excited to have her back in pro hockey.
Roque played 4 seasons at the University of Wisconsin with 155 games and totaled 170 points (56G 114A).
Annika Zalewski – 24, forward
Annika Zalewski played in the NWHL last season with the Buffalo Beauts. In that season, she played in 16 games with 12 points (3G 9A). I haven’t seen much of Annika’s play but I’m excited to see her in the PWHPA next season.
Hilary Knight – 30, forward (right-wing)
This is a woman who doesn’t need much introduction. Hilary Knight is a founder of the PWHPA so it comes as no shock that she is returning this year. Knight is an 8-time gold medalist at the World Championships, 2-time silver medalist. She’s got an Olympic gold medal and 2 silvers, he’s won 2 CWHL titles, 1 NWHL title, and 2 NCAA championships. Knight is an advocate for women’s hockey everywhere both on and off the ice.
Sarah Potomak – 22, forward
Another greatly accomplished player, Sarah Potomak is coming to the PWHPA from the University of Minnesota. Potomak played in 145 games with 179 points (65G 114A). She’s going to fit right in with one of the PWHPA teams.
Jess Jones – 29, forward
Jess Jones has been around a few leagues once or twice. Jones was with the CWHL from 2013 to 2017 before she went to the NWHL for a season before heading back to the CWHL for one more run in Markham. Jones was with the PWHPA last season so it makes sense that she’s coming back for more.
Dani Cameranesi – 22, forward
Dani Cameranesi is also returning to the PWHPA. I remember when I saw the Dream Gap Tour in Chicago, Cameranesi was one of the players that blew me away. She is fresh out of the University of Minnesota as well and will fit in just about anywhere.
I’m excited for all of these players to join the PWHPA but we’ll have to wait and see where each player ends up next. In the meantime, watch this Hilary Knight highlights reel with me because I’m so god damn in love.
