By this point we all know, I am a history NERD. I love history, I wish I could time travel and I absolutely adore any game that takes place in the past so you can guess that Assassin’s Creed is one of my favorite series. Now, with the new Assassin’s Creed being about Viking, I’m going to be living the fuckin dream.
There are four jobs in history that I’d do if given the chance.
- Cowboy
- Pirate
- Knight
- Viking
Besides books, I luckily have a way to feel like I’m living in history. Video Games. To live the life of a Cowboy, I have Red Dead Redemption II that I play for at least 3 hours a day. Like Fallout, it’s a game you can get lost in and spend hours just riding a horse and camping. I live in the suburbs so, sadly, I can’t do that IRL.
Next, Pirate. There are a few games with the pirate theme but Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is one of the best for that. I am absolute garbage at driving the ships but running around on the high seas and singing shanties is great.
As for Knight, I haven’t found a great game where you get to be a knight. If you know one, please share.
And lastly, a Viking. This is where Valhalla steps in. My big problem is going to be driving the fucking boats, I know you’re going to have to do this in the game. You always have to do that shit. I’m totally going to be winging into rocks, left and right.
This game seems to be in the early Viking raiding days, the trailer shows these groups building communities and setting up tribes in England. Julian Benson from LADBible brought up how this story can be tied to the legendary Ragnar Lodbrok, whose story was the beginning plot in History’s “Vikings“, and I’m hoping that the stories are not tied together too much. I loved “Vikings” but I don’t want to play a video game that follows the same storyline as the show. As they tend to do with famous people in history, I’m sure you’ll cross paths and do some missions together but the stories will diverge and keep things interesting.
I think that Odin and other Gods will play a big part, which I love Nordic mythology. I wear a necklace that has a rune on it at all times so I’m excited for that.
The game will be coming out in December, or I hope because it just said “Holiday 2020”, and I’ll probably dedicate a month and a half to that. Follow along with Ham Sports for more sports talk, history rants, and video games.
