Step 1: Complete
The Blackhawks announced earlier today that president John McDonough has been fired. Chairman Rocky Wirtz said:
“Thirteen years ago, I recruited John to the Blackhawks because of his leadership, direction and vision, John brought all of that to the table and more. His contributions went well beyond leading the team to three Stanley Cup Championships. He rebuilt the front office and helped guide the organization toward a winning vision. As difficult as this is, we believe it was the right decision for the future of the organization and its fans.” (x)
We do owe McDonough his share for bringing this city it’s 3 Stanley Cups and a line-up of legends. But it’s time for something new. The system has its flaws and it’s time to get some new perspective on the scene. Rocky Wirtz’s son, Daniel Wirtz, will be serving as interim president until the organization can find a new one.
My next hope is that Stan Bowman is on the out. I’ve been wanting Bowman out for a while and now that McDonough is gone, this could be his exit ticket. Once again, we need fresh eyes on the market for the Hawks and this is the time to do it!
Step 2 better not be far off.
