At Day 30 into quarantine, it comes as a surprise to no one that alcohol sales are skyrocketing during the pandemic.
WGN reported:
“Nielson research shows alcoholic beverage sales increased in March — sales were up by 55% in the third week of March compared to the same week last year. In 40 states, and Washington D.C. liquor stores are considered an “essential business.”” (x)
Well when you got nothing to do but drink all day, it makes sense. People are staying home and having Zoom happy hours with their friends instead of being able to go out to a bar. Most bars and restaurants are delivering alcohol as well so it makes life easier.
The next time we’ll see a skyrocket like this is when people are able to congregate once more. Everyone is going to be throwing an absolute banger and stores will probably be running out of alcohol.
For now, we’ll run the stores dry while sitting on our asses at home and doing our part to flatten the curve.
