Shortman’s NHL Fight Bracket – St. Louis Blues vs Nashville Predators

I made a bracket a week back about an NHL Playoff that was a fight club. Now, as we have plenty of time before us, I’m going to go through the bracket and give you who I think would win each fight.

First off in the top spots in the Western Conference is the St. Louis Blues vs the Nashville Predators. The Blues and Preds are aligned to fight against one another come playoffs so here is the fight roster:

blues vs preds

Fight 1: Colton Parakyo vs Rocco Grimaldi

Fight #1, we have the Blue’s biggest player vs the Pred’s smallest player. For the Blues, Colton Parakyo is a whopping 6’6″ 230lbs at 26 years old. His opponent, Rocco Grimaldi is 5’6″ 180lbs at 27 years old.

For this one, I’m going to have to go with that unit Colton Parayko. Parakyo has been in a few scraps before so I know he’s competent to handle himself.

Fight #2: Alex Steen vs Dante Fabbro

In Fight #2, we have the oldest Blue verse the youngest Predator. That leaves Alex Steen, a 38-year-old, to fight 21-year-old Dante Fabbro. Steen is 6’0″ 211lbs with 15 years under his belt. Meanwhile, Fabbro is 6’1″ 193lbs in his sophomore season.

For this, I’ll give my vote to the youth. Fabbro’s youth will outweigh the experience Steen has and he’ll be able to wear him out and take him down.

Fight #3: Jaden Schwartz vs  Jarred Tinordi

Fight #3 is battled between the Blue’s smallest player and the Pred’s biggest player. This leaves St. Louis’ Jaden Schwartz, 5’10” 190lbs to face Jarred Tinodi, a 6’6″ 230lbs American.

Although Schwartz can be scrappy, it’s been Tinordi’s job in the NHL and AHL to throw hands so my vote goes to Tinordi here.

Fight #4: Robert Thomas vs Pekka Rinne

Next up for Fight #4, the Blue’s youngest player will fight the Pred’s oldest player. That means that 20-year-old Robert Thomas would fight 37-year-old Pekka Rinne. Rinne is known for being aggressive but due to his age, he gets a bit more banged up easily.

I give my vote to the youth once more because he’s a bit more stable.

Tiebreaker Fight #5: Alex Pietrangelo vs Roman Josi

As we’re tied up 2-2, that means we have a tiebreaker 5th fight between the captains. Here we have 6’3″, 210lbs, 30-year-old Blue’s captain Alex Pietrangelo pit against 6’1″, 201lbs, 29-year-old Roman Josi.

For this Captain against Captain, I pick Roman Josi. Although Pietrangelo is a bit of a pest, Josi could dodge his quickly. Josi has seen a few more fights in the NHL than Pietrangelo so I give my vote to the 29-year-old.

SO those are my picks for the first round battle between the Blues and the Preds. At the end of the day, the Preds are my winners to advance on from the first round. The next set to face off is the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche, whoever wins that match will face the Predators in round two! Stay tuned for the next fights against the Stars and Avs coming up in the next few days.
