Major Leagues Up Protocol to Prevent Spread of Coronavirus

The MLB (baseball), MLS (soccer), NBA (basketball), and NHL (hockey) have announced that they will be closing their locker rooms down to only players and essential staff due to the spread of coronavirus.

This doesn’t come as a big shock to hockey fans. The NHL started this ban earlier this week. Dallas Stars reporter Sean Shapiro tweeted this picture this morning:

There has been speculation that the NHL’s game may begin to be held without any fans present in the arena. Switzerland’s leagues have started doing this at their playoff games so if the NHL ends up closing the games, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Patrice Bergeron was asked that today:

Even though it would suck to have the games closed to the public, it’s better to be safe than sorry. The virus is already spreading quickly and preventing it’s spread in any way seems necessary.
