40 years ago, a group of college kids did the unimaginable. On this date in 1980, the US National Men’s Hockey Team beat the Soviet Union in the Olympics. The Soviets were the best in the world and seen as unbeatable, they had won the goal medal at the previous 4 Olympics and absolutely dominated any team that played them.
Until one man decided to change the game. That man was the infamous Herb Brook. Brooks alongside assistant coach Craig Patrick and their group of underdog 20 college men defeated the beast in a heartwrenching game.
But they did it. On this day, 40 years ago, that group of men changed the world.
If you don’t know the whole story I implore you do learn about it and I also highly recommend the movie (which is on Netflix) called “Miracle” (2004).
I’ve said before how Miracle is one of the few things that makes me feel extremely patriotic so this day of the year is special to me.
