The Kings’ trade extravaganza continues. (Sorry Kings fans).
The trade is finalized, Vegas gets veteran defenseman Alec Martinez. Vegas is giving up 2 draft picks for the 32-year-old. The Kings are getting a 2020 2nd-Round pick and a 2021 2nd-Round pick.
Martinez has 1 goal and 7 assists in 41 games this season. In his career, he has played in 597 games with 198 points (62G 136A) while averaging 19:24. He’s a two time Stanley Cup Champion.
The Kings are really having an “Everything must go sale” this trade season. In the 2020 Draft, they’ve already got 10 picks, preparing for a fresh start next season. I talked a bit in this blog that the Kings are in no place to go for a run so just stockpiling prospects and picks seem like the way to go. Not to mention, they’ve got $5,765,493 in projected cap space currently. But the team has 5 players (3D 2F) going UFA come July. The Kings aren’t the powerhouse they used to be but they’re setting up a good structure to get there one again.
