Last night, Lafreniere put up 7 points in a game (1G 6A) to push himself from 92 points to 99 in just 44 games. During his season with the Rimouski Oceanic in the QMJHL, the 18-year-old left-winger has 29 goals and 70 assists with a +38 rating.
As for Rossi, the 18-year-old centre has 98 points in 45 games. In this 2nd season with the Ottawa 67’s in the OHL, Rossi has 32 goals and 66 assists with a +60 rating.
The next time Lafreniere plays is on Wednesday, February 19th. But Rossi plays tonight, Monday, February 17th so my money is on him to pick up 2 points and steal the race to 100 points.
In the end, the race means nothing as it doesn’t affect their draft placement or their own seasons considering they’re in different leagues but it does add a little fuel to the fire when draft talks come up.
Who knows, if New Jersey ends up with all 3 of these first-round picks we could see Rossi and Lafreniere together with the Devils in the coming seasons.
