San Jose Sharks’ Season Went From Bad to Worse

The Hockey Gods really have it out for the Sharks this season.

With a 25-28-4 record, the team is 6th in the Pacific division. Now, they’re facing yet another injury and a controversial suspension.

First up, the injury to Erik Karlsson. It was reported earlier today that Karlsson will be out for the remainder of the season with a broken thumb. This is a massive blow to the Sharks considering Karlsson was leading them in points. Karlsson had 40 points (6G 34A) in 56 games played. The team has already lost captain Logan Couture (45GP 14G 22A) and Tomas Hertl (48GP 16G 20A) in less than 2 months and now they’re out another key player in Karlsson.

Shortly after the Karlsson injury was reported, the NHL Players Safety announced that Evander Kane would be dealt a 3 game suspension for Elbowing Neal Poink.

Where the scandal comes in is Kane’s response.

I mean you can’t disagree with him. I’ve talked a few times about how annoyingly inconsistent the NHL Players Safety is. Discipline for the hit is necessary but giving him 3 games while we have seen a number of other people get off scot-free? That’s bullshit.

Overall, rough day for Shark fans with gloom on the horizon. BUT the Sharks have $17 million in cap relief from the LTIR so there could be a possible trade on their horizon.
