I just yesterday wrote about how the Blackhawks needed to win last night, do-or-die.
Well, that failed. The Hawks were shut out 3-0 last night against Vancouver and my hope is slowly flickering out like an old candle. What stings the most about that game is the Hawks were alive.
In those 60 minutes, they put up 49 shots on goal but none of them went through the whole night. Things were clicking, there was energy, but the Hockey Gods said no and they fell.
There are still 2 games on this road trip for the Hawks to get these crucial points. They still have 58 points in the standings and are chasing Arizona’s 64 points. Any point helps here.
Next, the Blackhawks meet the Calgary Flames. Calgary is 29-23-6 this season with 64 points. The Flames are sitting in the 1st Western Wild Card spot. Stealing 2 points from Calgary is imperative right now. The Hawks take them on Saturday so let’s end this 5 game skid and get back to the hunt.
This next set of games is also going to be a deciding factor for some player’s futures such as Erik Gustafsson and Robin Lehner. The trade deadline is coming up fast and the Hawks are going to have to make a move if they want a chance at the postseason. Plus what they do at the deadline influences what happens this summer and Lehner is, in my opinion, the biggest question mark of them all for this team.
What I said yesterday about DeBrincat and Strome remains. I will leave you with my hopeful cat poster.
