Alex Ovechkin is within reach of Wayne Gretzky‘s title.
Ovi picked up 2 goals tonight to put him at a career total of 695, just 199 goals away from Wayne Gretzky’s 894 NHL goals. Tonight, Ovi moved up to the 8th leading goal scorer of all time.

I’ve been a firm believer that Ovi can do it. Within the next 3-4 seasons, he’ll break Gretzky’s record, no problem. The Great 8 has 1,265 NHL points in 1,135 games throughout his 15 years in the NHL. Gretzky finished up with 2,857 points in 1,487 games over a 20-year career so I don’t think Ovi will touch his points record.
But, give Ovi a few seasons and he’s gonna be the goal-scoring leading in NHL history.
