The NWHL announced their players of the week and both players were rightfully chosen.
The first player of the week is Amanda Leveille, goalie of the Minnesota Whitecaps. I talked about Leveille earlier this week but to catch you up here is what her season has looked like.
- 14 Games Played (every Whitecaps game so far), 8-4-2 record
- 433 Shots against, 32 goals allowed
- 2.27 goals-against average
- .926 save percentage
- 2 shutouts
Leveille has been phenomenal for the Whitecaps as they’re heading for another Isobel Cup run. Here is one of my favorite saves.
The other Player of the Week was another goaltender, this time from the Metropolitan Riveters. Sam Walther, on her second Player of the Week appearance this season, has been starting for the Riveters this season and faring well in tough times. In the last 3 games, Walther has faced 108 shots and only allowed 6 goals. This is what Walther has been up to this season:
- 15 games played (every Riveters game so far), 7-8-0 record
- 539 shots against, 57 goals allowed
- 4.02 goals-against average
- .894 save percentage
This is a little highlight reel of what Walther has been up to this season.
Both goalies have been on their A-game which has made the past series between the Whitecaps and Riveters so interesting to watch. We’re hitting the midpoint of this season and the playoff race is starting to kick up, this is the stretch where being this top-notch goalie is vital.
The Whitecaps and Riveters will not play each other again this regular season but both teams will have to face the beast of the Boston Pride soon and these two goalies will be the game-changers.
