The Nashville Predators dropped Peter Laviolette last night and now the team has announced that they are hiring John Hynes as their new head coach.
RIP Nashville and all it’s fans.
If you don’t remember, John Hynes coached the New Jersey Devils for the last 4-ish seasons until he was fired in early December. Hynes started this season with a 9-13-4 start in the first 26 games so the Devils front office gave him the boot. In his entire time with the Devils, Hynes went 150-159-45 and the team only made the playoffs once (2017-18, lost in 5 games).

This has to be rough on Preds fans who already had a bad start and now you’re getting the guy who was the king of bad starts this season.
Hynes did have success as an AHL and IIHF coach, as the Preds boast about in this article, but he hasn’t seen much success at the NHL level. As much as I’m dogging on this, you never know if things can click into place.
Maybe here Haynes will find success like he had with the Wilkes-Barrie/Scranton Penguins and early 2000/s WJC teams. BUT I don’t think throwing him into this team, mid-season while their struggling is going to boost this team to where it was, such as last season.
