Big news for Penguins fans as Sidney Crosby is traveling with the team on their West Coast trip. The Penguins have been a mess of injuries this season but they’ve been stellar throughout.
When it comes to the captain’s injury, Sid has been up and about with the Penguins, skating at practice and appearing in the halls of PPG. His return has no specific timetable but traveling with the team out west is a good indicator that his return is imminent.
Regardless if you like the Penguins or not, you have to give it to them for being this good with so many injuries. The team has 173 man-games lost in just 42 games (their whole season). In the first 42, the team has a 24-12-5 record with 142 goals for and 113 goals against.
The team has lost:
- Nick Bjugstad (32 games and counting)
- Sidney Crosby (25 games and counting)
- Brian Dumoulin (18 games and counting)
- Jake Guentzel (3 games and counting)
- Justin Schultz (8 and counting)
- Patric Hornqvist (17 games)
- Bryan Rust (14 games)
- Evgeni Malkin (13 games)
- Alex Galchenyuk (9 games)
- Kris Letang (8 games)
- Jared McCann (2 games)
Only 5 players have played all 42 and that’s Brandon Tanev, Dominik Simon, Marcus Pettersson, Teddy Blueger, and Zach Aston-Reese. It’s been brilliant to see them fight any adversity that comes their way.
Once they get healthier and some players slot back in, this team is going to be an absolute monster to defeat. I want to see how they’re going to fair for them in the last legs of the season in the playoff push if things will excel or tank from there.
I’m sure they’ll excel. They’ve got some of the most talented players in the world and a persistent group of guys, they could absolutely rocket to the moon in the final stretch of the season.
