The Minnesota Whitecaps are on the hunt for an Isobel Cup repeat this season. The Whitecaps took an L today against the Metropolitan Riveters (1-3) but the team itself has been excellent this season.
One player that I have been raving about has been Amanda Leveille, the goalie. Leveille has 2 shutouts this season, one came against the Riveters just yesterday and her saves were out of this world. She faced 36 shots and absolutely shut down some very dangerous shots.
Leveille has a record of 8-4-0, a save percentage of .926, and a GAA of 2.27.
The team as a whole has been offensively strong. They have 48 goals for and 33 against to line up with a +15 difference. Allie Thunstrom leads the team with 10 goals and 5 assists for 15 points. Nicole Schammel (7G 7A) and Amanda Boulier (1G 13A) are in 2nd with 14 points.
Now the Whitecaps are 2nd in the NWHL Standings with 18 points (an 8-4-2 record). Of course, the Caps are behind the Boston Pride, who I have brought up before, that are 17-0-0 on the season so should these two meet in a final I think we’ll either see complete domination or a tough battle to the photo finish.
The Whitecaps have lost the first 2 games they played against the Pride but they will meet again January 25th and 26th. These are the two I think we’ll see in the Isobel Cup final but we still have some hockey left before we get into the Cup finals.
