Team USA Falls From Men’s World Juniors

Oh, how the mighty fall. Team USA has been eliminated from the World Junior Championships.

On Cole Caufield’s birthday too. Rough day.

The final defeat came at the hands of the reigning Champion Finland. It’s a bittersweet 0-1 loss for Team USA. Finland’s lone goal came from Joonas Oden just 4 minutes into the 3rd period.

The US outshot Finland 30-29 but nothing worked in the end. Tensions did pour over at the end of the 3rd where Team USA racked up 25 PIMs, mostly for Oliver Wahlstrom who had a 5 minute major for Checking to the Head and then a 20 game misconduct.

It really is a soul-crushing defeat. to come that close and fall in the end at just 0-1 is painful. There was not much pizzazz to this team as there was in the past but they still put up a damn good fight.

Now the 4 remaining teams are Finland (a Unit), Sweden, Russia, and Canada. Any of them will be an entertaining mash-up but I want to see a Canada vs Russia rematch.
