The Pittsburgh Penguins rode a roller coaster of emotions in their game against the Vancouver Canucks. The Penguins had 40 shots on goal with 22 shots against and they finished everything up with an 8-6 victory.
Pittsburgh started quick out of the gate in the first period. With 14 shots on goal, 2 slipped past Vancouver’s goalie. Jake Guentzel grabbed the first goal 2 minutes into the game. Bryan Rust picked up the second one 10 minutes later on the power play. Vancouver did only have 3 shots with one goal (J.T. Miller) yet the Pens left with a 2-1 lead going into the 2nd.
Vancouver took control of the 2nd. The Canucks put up 3 goals in about 11 minutes. First, Elias Pettersson (7:17), then Jake Virtanen (18:20), and finally Adam Gaudette (19:01). The Penguins pulled their starting goalie, Matt Murray in exchange for Tristan Jarry.
But in the final twenty minutes, things heated up. The Canucks at one point went up 3-6 over the Penguins but 5 unanswered goals flipped the finale. The Penguins came out victorious with an 8-6 score.
Evgeni Malkin was 1st star of the game after picking up 5 points, 2 of which are from goals in the 3rd period. Geno has been hard on himself after a rough start to the season and he’s doing just fine. I said that he’s going to have an absolutely fantastic season and he’s shaping up to do just that.
