BREAKING NEWS KIDS: The Toronto Maple Leafs have fired Head Coach Mike Babcock. Leafs’ PR recently announced the firing by tweeting this:
Rumors have been on the rise as of late regarding Babcock’s job security and after last night’s loss to Vegas, I’m not too shocked that Babcock has been let go.
The Leafs are 9-10-4 this season and are on a 6 game losing streak. The team hasn’t won since November 7th. Their power play is at 17.57% and their penalty kill is 73.08%, two things that have been a mess for the Leafs. The team save percentage averages to .897.
Things have not been going smooth at all for the Leafs. They made big trades this summer that have panned out for the other teams but the Leafs have been lost. With Keefe taking over, hopefully, we can see a turnaround for this young, fast, and talented team. Babcock went 173-133-45 in his time with Toronto and 20-8-12 in the playoffs.
In my opinion, I was here for Babcock being let go. There’s a lot of talent on the team but he never used it well. Tyson Barrie, who is a favorite player of mine (Colorado please save him), has seen a rough start to his time on the Leafs. Jason Spezza, a veteran who has given his time and worked his ass off, has been screwed over by Babs especially when it came to scratching him on opening night. Yeah, I’m still annoyed about that. The guy has done his time so show him some respect.
So I’m good with some change for the Maple Leafs. The Leafs will play the Coyotes tomorrow night. The first game of the Post-Babcock Era.
