The New Jersey Devils had a BIG off-season. The team scooped up Jack Hughes, the first-overall draft pick in the 2019 Draft. Then they acquired PK Subban, Nikita Gusev, and Wayne Simmonds. It seemed like the Devils were going to be a powerhouse team.
But they didn’t get the exact start they were hoping for.
The Devils started the season 0-4-2. The team was 0 and 18 on the power play, 9 of 21 on the penalty kill, and had a team Corsi For average of 45.7%. Their stars weren’t too hot, Taylor Hall lead the team in points with 5 points in 6 games.
Now the Devils have gotten in the win column with a 5-2 victory over the New York Rangers. It wasn’t a pretty, Devil-dominate game, it was a battle. The Devils hit a rough 2nd period when it came to controlling the puck but they took every opportunity to shoot and got 2 goals in that 20 minutes.
Of course, it’s just one win but that’s all people need to turn things around. On top of that, Jack Hughes finally got the monkey off his back and collected his first NHL point! Congrats on that one, Jack!
The Devils’ next opponent will be the Vancouver Cancks, who are 4-2-0 on the season so far.
