The New Jersey Devils have roped in some big players this summer such as Jack Hughes or P.K. Subban, but one offseason signing was turning heads during today’s preseason game against the New York Rangers.
Mikhail Maltsev, a 21-year-old left-winger, scored one of the best goals that we’ll see out of this preseason.
I’ve watched this 20 times and I’m still in awe. That was badass.
Maltsev played 12:44 on the ice during that game with a +2 rating and 2 SOG. He also had 4 giveaways and a 60% face-off win percentage.
The NHL (or AHL) has yet to see Maltsev in action yet. He was drafted to the Devils in the 4th round (102 overall) in 2016, but instead, he went over to play in the KHL. Here are his stats while playing for SKA St. Petersburgh:

Maltsev signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Devils. His contract is held by the Binghamton Devils (NJD’s AHL affiliate) and he makes $809,167. If he keeps up play like this, we could see him making his NHL Debut as soon as October or November.
