Today, the Philadelphia Flyers signed defenseman Ivan Provorov to a six-year, $6,750,000 AAV contract. That’s a great deal for both Philly and the 22-year-old defenseman. The stipulations of the deal are not 100% confirmed by the Flyers yet but according to Pierre LeBrun there is “$12 M in signing bonus money”.
Now that Philly has Provorov locked up they can move on to re-signing Team Pest Travis Konecny. The 22-year-old centre had an AAV of $1,106,667 during his last 3 seasons so fitting him under the $6,667,421 Cap Space that Philly has left. As long as Konecny stays reasonable, I see the Flyers getting this deal done quickly.
The team has had a pretty rough go recently. Last season the team had a rotating door of goalies. The Flyers had 8 goaltenders throughout the 82 game stretch, On top of that, they missed out on playoffs and haven’t made it past the First Round since 2012. This will be a big year for all of the young stars to step up and bring Philadelphia back into the spotlight.
