Artem Anisimov played in 78 games last season with 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points and a -2 rating. Anisimov had 142 shots on goal and averaged 16:21 on the ice per game. He had a corsi for of 48.6% and won faceoffs 45.7% of the time. Anisimov has a cap hit of $4.55 million dollars and is signed through 2020-2021.
Zack Smith played in 70 games last season with 9 goals and 19 assists for 28 points and a -6 rating. Smith averaged 16:21 on the ice per game and had 101 shots on goal. He won 49.1% of faceoffs he participated in this season. He had a corsi for of 44.6%. Smith has a cap hit of $3.25 million and is also signed through 2020-2021.
The Blackhawks do clear up $1.3 million in cap space with this trade, enough to sign Brandon Perlini who is still an RFA. Anisimov didn’t really fit any other line besides Patrick Kane’s and it was predicted that we could see the 31 year old pack up this summer. Zack Smith is getting a redemption shot in Chicago after being sent on waivers and clearing them in September of 2018.
Personally, I think this move was to clear some space and pick up Perlini. Zack Smith will get some time to shine with the Blackhawks this season but the Hawks are stacked with centres, between Toews, Strome, Carpenter, Kampf and (possibly for a smaaaaall stint) Dach, we’d likely see him on the wing if the Hawks need it.
