Now the Stars have a lot of veteran talent. They’ve got 14 players on the lineup (according to CapFriendly) that are over the age of 27. But the few youngsters they have are astounding.
This season, the Dallas Stars relied heavily on call ups while the roster battled injury. One of the call ups was Roope Hintz, a 22-year-old Finnish winger.
In his rookie season, Roope made a big name for himself on the ice.
During the regular season, Hintz picked up 9 goals, 13 assists, and 3 game-wining-goals in his first 58 NHL games. He had about 14:03 on the ice per night but he used his time effectively. Hintz continued to glow in playoffs when the Stars played an additional 13 games and Roope collected 5 goals and 3 assists in that time. Roope’s time went up to 16:06. He was an influence on the ice and got a lot of heads turning towards the Stars.
The Stars need to keep Hintz around for a long time to come. Hintz has such speed, smarts, and drive that’s naturally a part of his game; not to mention he’s slowly becoming a fan favorite. Anyway, this 22 -year-old is going to bring the Stars the glory they’re searching for alongside names like Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, Ben Bishop, Miro Heiskanen, and so many others.
Roope has 1 year left on this entry-level contract and after that he’s RFA. They say “Built it and it will come” in this case for the Stars, build that strong, fast, resilient foundation and the Stanley Cups will come. Roope Hintz is a part of that foundation.
