Today, the Montreal Canadiens signed centre Nick Cousins to a one-year, $1,000,000 deal. Cousins, 26 years-old, is a smaller player at 5’11” and 185 lbs has played 4 seasons in the NHL. The Canadiens see more that they can get from him.
Cousins played for the Arizona Coyotes last season and his style of play stands out more then his point scoring. He had 27 points (7 G 20 A) in 81 games. He averaged 13:33 on the ice and won 46.7% of the faceoffs he was in. It was his best season so for points rise.
Cousins is defensively smart, he blocked 51 shots, laid out 115 hits, and had 39 takeaways. Cousins has a distinct playing style, he’s rambunctious on the ice. Cousins collected 35 PIMs last season but that doesn’t stop him. He’s a bold player much like Brendan Gallagher.
The Canadiens need players that give their heart in soul.
Last season, the Canadiens missed out on playoffs with a record of 44-30-8 (96 points). They finished at 4th in the Atlantic with 249 Goals For and 236 Goals Against. The team had their highs and lows and Nick Cousins can help the Canadiens make playoffs once more.
