Brace Yourself Blackhawks Fans: More Trades Are Comin’

Yesterday, the Blackhawks traded young forward Dominik Kahun and a 5th round draft pick to Pittsburgh in exchange for defensemen Olli Maatta. But the Hawks aren’t done yet.

Today, Stan Bowman, Blackhawks GM, told told the press that he “expects the Blackhawks to continue to be active in the trade market over the next couple weeks.”

It’s no surprise, after missing playoffs two seasons in a row there was bound to be more changes on the rise. The Blackhawks have a number of players they can part with both before July 1st and at it.

Trade wise, we’ll probably see John Hayden hit the road. I love the fighter in Hayden but it’s been a rough season for him. Hayden played in 54 games this season with 5 points, he had a -12 and only averaged 9:10 a game. He had a faceoff win percentage of 24.1%. Hayden is a big fighter but offensively he doesn’t have much to give the Hawks. The Hawks can get another grinder-type player or maybe a draft pick for him.

The Hawks have a number of these “Inbetweener” type players. They only had 4 players play in all 82 games, one was Kahun. 9 current players had more then 20 points. They relied more on having a rotating door with their AHL team. Their core consists of older guys who have won a Cup or two with the franchise and Alex DeBrincat. As for the outskirts, they need to pick up younger and more consistent players. If it costs an average player or two so be it.

It’s going to be an interesting few days watching what Bowman does. But one thing he should do is sign Artemi Panarin July 1st. Yes, I want Panarin back because that rocket can boost this team so damn much. Get Panarin, pick up some talented studs and cut off the excess is a bid deal moving forward.
