Last season, the Cubs bats weren’t fairing too well. After losing hitting coach John Mallee in October of 2017, the Cubs hitting took a turn south. As a team, the Cubs only had 761 runs, 4th in National League teams, and 1,453 hits during the 2018 season.
The Cubs hired hitting coach Anthony Iapoce before this season and he’s been a major help to the team.
This season, the Cubs bats are hot. 41 games in, the Cubs have got 372 hits and 230 runs in 41 games. One of their best performances came tonight, May 17th, as the Cubs took on the Nationals. The Cubs won 14-6 and scored 9 of those runs in just 2 innings.
Hero of the game was Kris Bryant. KB had 6 at bats with 3 runs, 4 hits, and 5 RBI’s. He struggled a bit last season, battling injury, with 106 hits, 59 runs, and 52 RBI’s in 102 games. Already in 40 games KB has 43 hits, 36 runs and 31 RBI’s. His performance led the Cubs to victory and it’s great to see the young star back on top.
Cubs are 14-6 in their last 20 with 92 runs and 162 hits. The season may have started rough but the Cubs are back on top. The Cubs are holding the the NL Central lead by 1.5 games and with the way they’ve been playing, there are only more sweet victories on the horizon.
