For the first 48 minutes of the game, everything was going in Vegas’ favor. William Karlsson (1st period 10:10), Cody Eakin (2nd period 10:00), and Max Pacioretty (3rd period 3:36) all scored throughout those 48 minutes to give Vegas a 3-0 lead.
Early in the 3rd, Cody Eakin cross checked Joe Pavelski and Eakin was thrown from the game with a 10 minute Game Misconduct penalty and a 5 minute major. This penalty changed the entire game.
Next, San Jose would score 4 unanswered goals on that 5 minute penalty and put themselves into the lead. Logan Couture (9:20), Tomas Hertl (10:09), Logan again (12:53) all got the Sharks to a tied game before Kevin Labanc (13:21) put the Sharks into the league. When the game seemed over Jonathan Marchessault scored for Vegas, tying the game with :47 seconds left! The Golden Knights went from a 2-0 lead to tied 4-4 in a “final” 20 minutes.
Overtime proved more insanity. Both goaltenders worked their ass off against every shot they faced. In the end, Barclay Goodrow beat Marc-Andre Fleury 18:19 minutes into the first overtime period to seal San Jose’s victory.
This game was one you talk about as a kid. Game 7, Series winning overtime. Barclay Goodrow goal was unbelievable and one for the ages. San Jose will move on to fight the Colorado Avalanche in Round 2. This playoff race is just starting and it’s hotter than Hell.
