Capitals and Hurricanes Take It To Double OT In Game 7

Another series ended in Game 7 tonight where the Washington Capitals fell to the Carolina Hurricanes in double OT.

This game didn’t have the insanity of last night’s Game 7 between San Jose and Vegas but it was still an exhilarating Game 7 that ended in double OT.

Best Buds Andre Burakovsky and Tom Wilson got the scoring started early with a goal from Andre 2 minutes into the game. Wilson took a feed from Ovi and scored 4 minutes later to give the Caps an early 2-0 lead at the end of the first.

Sebastian Aho brought the Hurricanes back to speed on a sort handed goal almost 1/2 way through the 2nd. Evgeny Kuznetsov pulled the Caps even further in front to put the score at 3-1. Teuvo Teravainen scored for the Hurricanes ending the 2nd at 3-2 in the Caps favor.

The only goal in the 3rd came from Jordan Staal at 2:56. That tied the game and it remained that way past on OT period. In the 1st OT, the Caps had only 4 shots on goal compared to Carolina’s 11. In the Double OT, Brock McGinn of the Carolina Hurricanes scored 11 minutes into the double OT.

It was an insane series between the two teams. With the elimination of the Caps, this is the first time in NHL history that both top seeds in each Conferences has been eliminated in the 1st round.

The Hurricanes will take on the New York Islanders in Round 2.
