Going into the playoffs, it was nearly guaranteed that the Tampa Bay Lightning were going to be a force to be reckoned with. But that was the opposite of what has happened.
The Lightning have been swept by the Columbus Blue Jackets and it has been the best thing to happen to this playoff series. With the Lightning eliminated, a monkey wrench has been thrown into the playoffs and it’s anyone’s game. Going in it seemed like Tampa was going to dominate and it’s was going to be a predictable playoff series but this is big, especially for someone like myself that loves chaos.
I thought that Tampa had this series in clutch, much like almost everybody else, but this sweep has got to be the plot twist we’ve all wanted to come out of this. I feel bad for Tampa, they battled hard this season, with a record of 62-16-4 in the regular season and 325 goals for with 222 goals against. They won the Presidents trophy and blew every team they faced out of the water but nothing could hold once they reached playoffs.
Columbus is going to on top of the world after throwing down the best team in the league, a team that kicked their asses when they faced off in the regular season. Moving onto the 2nd round, they’re going to want to carry this momentum and see where it takes them.
