Women’s Team USA Heading To The Semifinals

A big victory today at the Women’s IIHF World Championship over in Espoo, Finland. Team USA annihilated Team Japan 4-0 and is advancing to the semifinals.

This is team USA’s 3rd straight shut out during this championship, keeping the opposition scoreless for over 200 minutes. In this game alone, goalie Maddie Rooney faced 10 shots from Team Japan.

On the offensive side, Team USA was productive. The team had 53 shots and 4 goals. Goals were attributed by Hilary Knight, Dani Cameranesi, Cayla Barnes, and Kendall Coyne Schofield.  In this stretch of shut outs the United States has outshot the opposition 154-28! In today’s game against Japan, Sydney Brodt has 6 shots, Alex Carpenter had 5 shots, and 4 players (Megan Bozek, Hilary Knight, Kacey Bellamy, and Hayley Scamurra) had 4 shots on goal.

This team is absolutely electric to watch on the ice. Using speed and skill, they take every chance they can get, be it off the rebound or from the top of the circle, to get the puck in the net. Team USA a high chance of advancing far into this tournament, even taking the gold medal. Their next opponent is undetermined but the game will be against either Team Russia or Team Switzerland, both of which were shut out by the Americans previously in this tournament.
