Ryan Dzingel is likely to be out of Ottawa by the end of today, Saturday, February 23rd. Dzingel has been sat out since February 18th for precautionary reasons i.e. so he doesn’t get injured before they trade him.
Dzingel could be used as either a rental or a long-term team player. He’s a young kid, 26 years old forward is on his 4th season in the NHL. He’s produced 22 goals and 44 points in the 57 game he’s played this season. Dzingel averaged 17 minutes on the ice per game. He is the type of player that gets up in front of the net and scored most of his goals off rebounds. Not to mention Dzingel has great speed for a guy whose 6’0″ and 190 lbs. He has a lower AAV of only $1.8 million which is great for a team with a tight cap.
There’s 3 Big teams perusing after Dzingel.
The Bruins are sitting at 2nd in the Atlantic and they want to hold onto the position, acquiring Dzingel can be just what they need. The Bruins just lost their top goal scorer, David Pastrnak, to injury a few weeks ago and need to add more depth scoring seeing as only 5 of their players have more than 5 goals.
Dzingel would be great for the Bruins in their race to playoffs, slotting into their 2nd line perfectly. For the Bruins it would be a good investment in the long run to resign Dzingel too. They have around $3.4 in cap space and for the moment Dzingel would take up $1.8 of that.
Columbus Blue Jackets
It makes sense that the Blue Jackets would try to acquire another Senator after acquiring Matt Duchene. The Blue Jackets are 3rd in the Metropolitan and they definitely want to make a playoff run while they still have Artemi Panarin and Sergei Bobrovski. It’s unlikely that Panarin will return last season or even last the rest of this season but it’s wise if the Blue Jackets pick up players who can score the big goals. The Blue Jackets have pretty good depth scoring but there is always room for improvement.
The Blue Jackets have a projected $4.7 in cap space and would be able to sign Dzingel to an extension for at least next season. Plus the Blue Jackets have rookies and prospects in spades for this trade.
After the whirlwind season the Blackhawks have been having, acquiring Dzingel would tremendously help this team’s playoff fight. The Blackhawks are 5th in the Western wild card race, 3 points behind the last playoff seat. The Blackhawks have been all over the board this season and traded away most of their depth scoring but with Dzingel’s help they could pull themselves back into the playoffs.
The Blackhawks have $4.5 million in cap space. Even if Dzingel is a rental, he would be an amazing addition to the team and their playoff run.
Now it’s a waiting game to see where Dzingel will land next and what the Senators will get in return.
