Matthews Signs Extension

Auston Matthews has signed his contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs! The contract is 5 years and worth $54.5 million, with an AAV of $11. 634 million (Of course there’s a 34 in it). What do you even do with that kind of money?

More than 93% of his extension is a signing bonus. In the first 2 years of this contract, Matthews will make $30.4 million in signing bonuses alone.

Here’s a nice breakdown of Matthew’s deal:

This deal is a perfect length for Auston and the Leafs, it’s a reasonable price for the Superstar and it still gives some cap space for the others who Dumbas is looking at signing. In a press conference, Auston expressed how determined he is to win the Stanley Cup for Toronto:

“I’m proud to wear the Maple Leaf every night. I want to make my family proud, the city of Toronto proud, and I think everyone in this locker room does as well.”

With this new deal signed, the Maple Leafs future is looking a lot brighter.

So far this season Matthews has 23 goals, 23 assists in 38 games. Since the New Year, Matthews has 4 goals and 7 assists in 13 games, although he has a +/- rating of -6.
